DEGREE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA
Dear Grand Knight,
On September 9th 2008, there will be recognition of 18
religious who are celebrating
milestones in their ordinations and/or vows. It is also the Feast of St.
Peter Claver and Bishop Glen
Provost will be the main celebrant at the 6PM Cathedral Mass. There will
also be a reception, after mass, in the Ave Marie Hall where we will
recognize our honorees.
We hope to make this recognition an annual event with the Councils and
Assemblies in the Diocese of Lake
Charles sharing responsibility for hosting and supporting this endeavor.
After much consideration on how to
recognize them, we decided that money and a card would be more
appropriate and practical. Some of our recipients have limited living
space and we felt that a
certificate or plaque might wind up in a drawer never to be seen again.
Our goal is to raise $6,400 so
that we can give each honoree $10 x years of service (i.e. someone
celebrating 5 years would receive $50 and someone celebrating 50
years would receive $500).
Who to recognize was another issue we addressed. It was decided since
this is our first annual
recognition of our religious that we would recognize all those with 50
or more years and all those celebration 5 years or multiples of 5 years.
So our honorees for this year would be Reverend
Henry Lenz, M.S. (67 yrs), Bishop
Jude Speyrer (55 yrs), Msgr. Joseph Bourque (53 yrs), Reverend
Theophilus Herlong (50 yrs), Reverend
Edward Brunnert, M.S. (45 yrs), Reverend Michael Barras
(35 yrs), Reverend Vincent
Vadakkedath (35 yrs), Reverend Hyacinth Okafor, C.M. (20 yrs),
Reverend Maxwell Okolie (20 yrs), Reverend Timothy Goodly (15 yrs),
Reverend Keith Pellerin (10 yrs), Reverend Paththinikuttige Nonis (10
yrs), Brother Don Smith, M.S. (54 yrs), Reverend Mr. Norris Chapman (25
yrs), Reverend Mr. Ed McNally (25 yrs), Sister Rita DeSchenes, S.S.J.
(52 yrs), Sister Catherine LeRoux,
S.E. (45 yrs) and Sister Mary Josphine Okafor, D.M.M.M. (35 yrs).
Now the
reason for this letter. We invite you to attend the mass and recognition
ceremony. We ask that your 4th
Degree Knights assist in providing an honor guard during mass. Finally
we ask for your help in making a donation to Mgsr. Cramers Assembly so
that we can raise the money
we need to recognize our honorees appropriately. Whether you pass the
hat, write a check from the Council or both, any amount that you
can send our way would be greatly appreciated. If you can
