Charles Jaubert

CHARLES CLERC JAUBERT

Charles Clerc Jaubert devoted nearly 50 years to the Knights of Columbus. He left a solid imprint upon the affairs of the Order,   not only in Louisiana, but throughout much of the South.

Arriving in Lake Charles as a young attorney shortly after graduating from Loyola University, Jaubert became active in many community and civic projects -- Boy Scouts, water safety, education -- but most of all he was an active, committed and involved member of the Church.

He was a grand knight of Calcasieu Council 1207, and was later a charter member of St. Margaret Council 3208 and Our Lady Queen of Heaven Council 4562. He served two years as state deputy.

He was also a charter member of Msgr. Cramers Assembly of the Fourth   Degree. Jaubert never held office in the assembly. His contributions to the Fourth Degree were made at a higher level. 'From 195]) to 1957 he was vice supreme master of Bienville Province of the Fourth Degree. Throughout this four-year period he was perhaps the most active vice supreme master in the history of the province.

He was chairman of the Catholic Social Principles Committee of the South for many years, and it was through his efforts that interest in Catholic social principles and in the great encyclicals of the Church was developed among the assemblies of the province. He launched an assembly award for the outstanding program of promoting Catholic social principles in the province, a project that, unfortunately, has not been continued by his successors.

After his services as vice supreme master, Jaubert became the founding Master of the Fourth Degree for Louisiana District II, when the state was divided into two districts, and helped to launch a number of programs at the district level, particularly in the area of providing scholarships for teachers in Catholic schools, and for students of - diplomacy.

In 1953 he was invested as a Knight of St. Gregory by Pope John XXI II for his signal services to the Church. He passed away in 1975.

In recognition of his many years of service and devotion to the Order and to the Church, Msgr. Cramers Assembly has inaugurated the Charles C. Jaubert Memorial Award, to be presented annually to a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus who best exemplifies the virtues of piety and patriotism that was so much a part of Sir Charles' life.
