1980-81. Under
Faithful Navigator ROBERT W.
KLINE, the assembly inaugurated three new
awards: The Charles Jaubert Award, the Isola Jaubert Award and the Diocese
of Lake Charles Citizen of the Year.
Alcide L. Broussard, KSG, won the first C.C. Jaubert Award, Mrs. J. W.
O'Reilly, Sr. won the first Isola Jaubert Award, and Msgr. Irving A.
DeBlanc was selected as the Diocesan Citizen of the Year on the 20th
anniversary of his appointment as pastor of Our Lady Queen of Heaven
Parish.
Twelve candidates entered the assembly at an Exemplification in
Lafayette, and for the first time the Color Corps mounted a Guard of Honor
at the Peter Claver Mass in collaboration with the Knights of Peter
Claver. And once more, the Master's Award went to Msgr. Cramers Assembly.
This year was saddened by the resignation of Past Faithful Navigator
Anthony Abate, the assembly's veteran Comptroller, who was forced to
resign his post because of ill health. In view of his many years of
service, he was presented with the Order of St. Louis in absentia at the
Biennial Convention of the Fourth Degree as the Sir Knight who "most
exemplified the virtues of the Fourth Degree."
At the same biennial convention, Past Faithful Navigator Robert Kline
was the only candidate for the post of Master, and he was appointed to the post by the Supreme Master as of September
1, 1984.
Sir Knight Kline was installed on October 6 in ceremonies held in Our
Lady Queen of Heaven Church. Msgr. Irving A. DeBlanc was the installing
officer and Msgr. Harry Greig, Vicar General of the Diocese of Lake
Charles, was a guest speaker at the installation banquet which followed
the installation ceremony.
During a distinguished term as Master, Sir Knight Robert Kline held two
Exemplifications of the Fourth Degree, which brought in 228 new members
into the district.
Sir Knight Kline also inaugurated three new awards -- the Clergyman of
the Year Award, the Five-Star Member Award and the Altar Server
Appreciation Award.
